About Kitchen Advice For You

Welcome to Kitchen Advice For You. The purpose of this blog is to enlighten those who seek knowledge about kitchens, cabinets, cabinet construction, kitchen design, and topics related to bettering the home. I am writing this as a national award-winning kitchen designer. The following will fill you in as to my experience.

Since the 60’s I have been involved in quality home building. My dad was a custom home builder and introduced me to construction at the early age of ten. I remember the raising of the I-beam on our own custom home at that age. I was probably more of a hinderance that day, but my dad wanted to expose me to the creation of our dream home. What better way to teach a child, but to get him involved in a task that seemed impossible to such a tiny person. He wanted me to help him lift this enormous wooden beam from the floor to well above my reach. I knew by looking at it that I couldn’t even budge it and I wasn’t even sure if he could lift it. I looked at my dad with a grin and asked, “You can’t lift that, can you?” He looked out of the corner of his eye at me and replied, “We’ll see soon enough.” Well it wasn’t too long before dad had some rope, a block and tackle, and with a few added strong backs the beam was raised and put in place. I learned that things aren’t always as they initially seem, which began my long journey into the world of home design – dreaming up solutions, making things work, and bringing concepts to life.

My father recommended that I take wood and metal shop along with college courses to make sure I had a better concept of working with raw materials. I learned how to manipulate wood and metal and often amazed the instructors by producing furniture that sold for a decent price. Then I began mechanical drawing classes and eventually moved into the study of Computer Aided Design (CAD). When school let out for summer, I would work with my father building homes and everything that went in them. When I went back to school I would study architecture, art, wood working, furniture, technologies, engineering in different degrees, and continued to work in the building industry.

As a young man I entered the kitchen design/sales field and began selling manufactured cabinets. I found much gratification in designing for homeowners and watching my projects magically move from paper to reality. I advanced in the field, managed staff, learned all I could about every aspect. In the last twenty-five years I have sold almost every major cabinet brand and received two national design awards. I am now president of a national corporation that markets 3-D design and quality custom cabinets on-line. My firm has delivered to most of the USA and beyond. I have learned from my mistakes and the mistakes of the manufacturers. I have seen products come and go. I have learned and continue to learn many fruitful things I wish to share. I am going to dispel a few myths, share some insights, and speak frankly and honestly about the trade. Hopefully I can empower/enlighten you to have a better, warmer, durable home.
